- German Karabiner Model 1898 AZ chambered in 8x57mm Mauser. Manufactured in 1912 by the Imperial Arsenal at Danzig.
- The Karabiner 98AZ was developed by Peter Paul Mauser as an improvement to the existing Mauser Model 1895, and was adopted by the Imperial German Army in 1908 to replace the previous Karabiner 98a which was adopted in 1902. Produced between 1908-1918 in Germany, it was also copied and produced in Poland at the government arsenal at Radom. Estimates on production figures range between 1,500,000 to upwards of 2,000,000 Karabiner 98AZ's being manufactured. They saw extensive service with Germany during the First and Second World Wars, as well as post-First World War service with Poland and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
- This particular rifle was produced in 1912, shortly before the outbreak of the First World War, according to the '1912' date stamp on the receiver. It also has the German royal crown with the text 'Danzig' beneath it, indicating that the Imperial Arsenal in Danzig was the manufacturer.
